Dr. Ruane has served as the former Chief of Surgery at both Bon Secours Venice Hospital and Englewood Community Hospital. He is currently a fulltime staff member of Venice Regional Medical Center and is curtsey staff at Englewood Community Hospital and Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Ruane received his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Illinois in 1982. He received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the Chicago Medical School in 1986. He then entered a General Surgery Internship and Residency at the University of Illinois Hospital (including Cook County and West Side VA Hospitals of Chicago) from 1986 through 1988. He entered the Urology Residency program at these excellent teaching hospitals completing his specialty studies in 1992. In this same year, Dr. Ruane became a Board Certified Urologist, and then tested again to become recertified in 2002.

Dr. Ruane joined RTR Urology after completing his Urology Residency in July 1992. Dr. Ruane and his wife, Michele, raised their family in Venice. They have both been very active in community and school projects. Raising his family, and being a Urologist in Venice, has been Dr. Ruane’s life – and he has enjoyed each passing year more than the last.

Dr. Ruane enjoys any physical activity from jet skiing and golf with his children to kite surfing and biking around the area. He has participated each July in the RAGBRAI leisurely jaunt, of nearly 500 miles, across Iowa.

Dr. Ruane joined Drs. Robert Ross and Joseph Thro in July 1992 and became the second “R” in RTR Urology. He followed in his Father’s footsteps in medicine and had this to say about his life:

“My Father influenced me to pursuer a medical career. Outstanding mentors then instilled my enthusiasm in Urology. My education has been ongoing – it did not end with medical school, internship or residency. Today, it continues through my patients, who teach me something new every day. I enjoy giving personal and individualized attention to patients. They like having time for explanations on their own level, so they can understand their situation, options and alternative therapies.”
